Annual GraphicsMedia.net workshop 2017

On September 7 and 8, GraphicsMedia.net held its annual workshop, 2017 edition. The motto of the workshop was “H2020 – the last mile”. 16 researchers and GraphicsMedia.net staff members gathered at Vicomtech’s premises in San Sebastián, to learn about various aspects of the H2020 Work Programme 2018-2020 and to discuss joint project proposal initiatives.

On the first day, all participants gave an overview of their ongoing research and project activities. Following, an introduction to the H2020 Work Programme 2018-2020 and to aspects which are specific to this last Work Programme under H2020 were presented by GraphicsMedia.net, along with a series of topics and calls for proposals that are of interest to the participating institutions and research departments. Non-mainstream funding schemes and opportunities were addressed, too. Another much appraised session was dedicated to “best practices in preparing a successful H2020 project proposal”, presented by Seán Gaines of Vicomtech. Researcher exchange opportunities within the network were also identified and discussed. Finally, GraphicsMedia.net demonstrated “CAT”, its “CORDIS Analytics Tool” which is the basis for a new set of services to members but also external R&D institutions and companies.

The second half of the afternoon of day one and the morning of day 2 were dedicated to working sessions in which the researchers, split into 2 groups, discussed and developed 6 joint project ideas targeting specific upcoming calls in the aforementioned Work Programme, to be developed further over the next months under the coordination of GraphicsMedia.net. Additionally, 3 ideas for new joint White Papers, to be promoted and published under the umbrella of GraphicsMedia.net, were also initiated.

In parallel to the working sessions, GraphicsMedia.net’s Supervisory Board held a meeting in which several topics were discussed, such as the status of pending new membership applications, the development of new internal initiatives like the “SME Cluster” and GraphicsMedia.net’s new internal Information Base, and our participation in the upcoming Proposers Day on November 9 and 10 in Budapest.
